An application password is a special code that lets other email apps — like Outlook, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird — connect to your Neo Mail account without using your regular password and keeps your account secure while having Two-Factor Authentication enabled. This feature is for Neo users who want to check their Neo email through a third-party app instead of the Neo website. By the end, you will have a working application password ready to use in your app of choice.

Setup
-
Go to the Neo webmail login page or desktop application and sign in with your usual email address and password.
-
In the top right corner, click Settings.
-
In the Settings panel, click Preferences.
-
On the Preferences page, find the section called Account & Security and click on Security & Access under it.
-
Next, click on Manage under the Two-Factor Authentication section.
-
You will be asked to verify your current identity to ensure no one with unauthorized access is able to create an application password for your account. Please enter your password for your Neo email account and click on Verify.
-
Next, you will be asked for your Two-Factor Authentication code as the final step for the verification process. Please enter the 6-digit verification code you see in your Two-Factor Authentication application and click on Verify once again.
-
You will be directed to a new page with the Application Password section. Under this section, look for the Set up now button under Generate App Password and click on the same.
-
Now, click on Generate new password which is located near the top right corner of the page.
-
Enter the name of the application you are using for this application password (not a compulsion, you can enter any other name that you can easily remember) and click on Generate password.
-
Neo will display a multi-character Generated application password. Click Copy to copy it to your clipboard and paste it in a secure environment so you can view it again later.
For security reasons, this password will not be shown again. Please ensure to note it down somewhere and secure it safely before moving onto the next step.
-
Click on Done once you have saved the password successfully to move on to the next step.
- Open your third-party email app (such as Outlook or Apple Mail) and setup your Neo email account by following the steps here.
- While following these steps, in the password field, paste the application password you copied in Step 11 — not your regular Neo password.
- Complete the setup steps in your third-party email application and you should now be able to access your Neo account in the app once you are done with the process.
- To use multiple other third-party email applications with the same account, generate new application passwords and configure your account by following the steps 9 - 15 again.
To maintain the highest security, we recommend generating and using new application passwords for each different third-party email application you are planning on using.
Confirmation
Once your third-party application connects successfully, it will start showing your Neo emails in that app within a few minutes. Back in Neo's Security & Access page, under Two-Factor Authentication > Application Password > Generate App Password > Manage, you will also see the name you gave the password (e.g., "Apple Mail") listed with the date it was created — this confirms it was saved correctly.
Revoking access
If you ever feel that you no longer need to use a certain third-party application and the application password for it is no longer required, you can head back to Neo's Security & Access page, under Two-Factor Authentication > Application Password > Generate App Password > Manage and click on Revoke access next to the application password you wish to revoke.
A confirmation dialog will pop up asking you if you wish to proceed with revoking the access. Click on Revoke access.
The application password will disappear, confirming it has been revoked / deleted. No further action is required from your end.
Troubleshooting
The third-party app says "incorrect password" or won't connect.
Cause: The app is likely using your regular Neo account password instead of the application password.
Fix: Go back to the app's account settings, remove the saved password, and re-enter the application password from Step 11. Regular passwords do not work for third-party apps once an application password has been set up for that connection.
You closed the pop-up before copying the password.
Cause: Neo only shows the full application password once, for security reasons.
Fix: Go to Neo's Security & Access page, under Two-Factor Authentication > Application Password > Generate App Password > Manage and revoke the entry you just created, and generate a new one. Copy it before closing the window this time.
The "Application Passwords" section is missing from your Security & Access page.
Cause: Two-Factor Authentication may not be enabled yet on your account.
Fix: Check if two-factor verification is turned on in Security & Access > Two-Factor Authentication. If it is showing you the option to Set up now, you first need to setup your Two-Factor Authentication before you can proceed with creating an application password.
